The findings and recommendations of this study have been presented by the Scottish Executive to ministers to help inform policy direction in light of the new Scottish Licensing Act.
Review of Purchased Drug and Alcohol Services for NHS Greater Glasgow Health Board and Local Councils (2003/2004) This project involved qualitative and quantitative interviews and focus groups with staff and service users from statutory and voluntary projects and relevant social services. This comprehensive review aimed to understand the barriers and links between the services which improved/impeded a successful working relationship. Recommendations were then made which outlined the information, planning and support required by the services to improve working structures.
Diet Action and Healthy Eating (2005) This involved a series of focus groups with young people and adults (including young mums), from low to middle socioeconomic backgrounds in Ayrshire. The main objective was to gain a better understanding of the attitudes and barriers to healthy eating/lifestyle. Special attention was made on the perceptions and motives involved in trying to change to a more healthy diet and increased exercise regimes. Practical recommendations for future policies were developed and included in the final report for the local health board.
Investigation of Child Safety for Local Council (2001) This project involved the commissioning of HFAL consultants to conduct a feasibility study on the introduction of two walking to school buses within a local council area. The work commissioned aided decision making and funding process for the Council in its attempts to increase the level of exercise undertaken by local primary school children.
